Jannes is the Chief Investment Officer at AGC, responsible for leading the firm’s global investment strategy, overseeing portfolio construction, and managing all credit investments across emerging markets. He works closely with origination and risk teams to evaluate opportunities, structure transactions, and ensure disciplined portfolio monitoring.
Prior to his appointment as CIO, Jannes served as AGC’s Chief Operating Officer, overseeing all financial and operational matters for the management company and its funds. Over the past two years, alongside his COO responsibilities, he also acted as Portfolio Manager for Africa, where he originated, structured, and closed multiple transactions across the region with a focus on financial inclusion and SME financing.
Jannes has 14 years of experience in financial services spanning private credit, transactional due diligence, external audit, and business restructuring. During his time in BDO Corporate Finance, he was involved in several debt‑raising mandates and executed financial due diligence for corporate transactions. Earlier in his career, he worked in audit and restructuring roles at Mazars South Africa across sectors including asset management, manufacturing, and real estate.
Jannes holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and law and a bachelor’s (honours) degree in accounting from the University of Stellenbosch. He is a Chartered Accountant (SA) and a CFA charterholder.
