Hendrik Van Deventer

Hendrik is co-CEO and has joint responsibility for supporting strategic objectives with respect to assets under management and profitability while ensuring the smooth management, operation and development of AGC.

Together with the investment team, he is also responsible for securing and managing the global investment pipeline from initial prospecting efforts through to closing and beyond. As an experienced credit portfolio manager with deep expertise in credit underwriting, portfolio management and debt recovery, he heads up and oversees all investments that AGC makes globally in both developed and emerging markets, including Latin America, North America, Western and Eastern Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, and South-East Asia.

Before joining AGC in 2014, Hendrik spent a number of years at Barclays Capital in the emerging markets treasury and counterparty risk trading teams. In the EM team, he managed asset/liability mismatches across fixed income, foreign exchange and commodities. In the counterparty risk trading team, he managed counterparty credit risk arising from derivatives trading.

Previously, he was at Blue Financial Services, a pan-African microfinance organisation where he worked on the rescue, restructuring and turnaround efforts of the firm before selling it to a private equity firm. He started his career with Deloitte on the financial auditing team.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting, a master’s degree in taxation, is a qualified Chartered Accountant (SA) and holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
